As an entrepreneur or business owner, you’re blessed with lots of options for project management software – 289 and counting according to our latest count — which means you probably would want to try a free version or at the very least understand ClickUp pricing and billing cycles before you commit.

The decision of which software to choose often comes down to what features they offer, and maybe how much it’ll cost—but getting accurate information can be a royal pain.

In this post, we’ve saved you the trouble by tracking down complete information for Clickup cost, and we’ve thrown in a breakdown of what you can expect from each tier.

What to know about ClickUp pricing

Let’s start with the basics. Founded in March 2017, ClickUp is a relative newcomer in the project management software space. The cloud-based collaboration and project management tool is intended to be suitable for businesses of all sizes and industries.

It includes features like communication and collaboration tools, task assignments and statuses, alerts, and a task toolbar. Users can also monitor tasks as they’re created and completed in real-time with the activity stream displays.

According to research by Capterra, companies spend a median of $1,200 implementing project management software like ClickUp.

Despite the massive potential benefits, a cloud-based task manager isn’t cheap. The question is whether you can get enough out of ClickUp to justify the spend, or if another alternative, like monday.com may be a better fit for you.

Is ClickUp Free?

Like most project management software out there, ClickUp offers free options to become familiar with the product before you upgrade to a paid plan. Let’s walk through the ClickUp pricing levels.

ClickUp has five paid plans to choose from that include Free Forever, Unlimited, Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise.

1) Free Forever plan

ClickUp does offer a free plan, but it of course sharply limits what you can do with the platform. With the Free Forever plan, you only get 5 workspaces, and can only store 100MB worth of docs.

You also lose access to many of the integrations (including Google Drive and Dropbox) and you can’t edit file permissions. That being said, you’d usually be hard-pressed to find a tool that offers unlimited users, but ClickUp’s pricing page does indicate a “no catch” policy for unlimited members. It’s important to note that while you can have guests, you won’t be able to control their permissions — they will have full access to your spaces.

If you need more storage, or can’t do without a feature that’s missing like unlimited Gantt charts, you’ll need to step up to a paid plan. To see how ClickUp compares with monday check out our ClickUp vs monday.com comparison guide.

2) Unlimited plan

Unlimited, ClickUp’s cheapest paid plan, costs $9 per member per month if you pay monthly, and $5 per member per month if you pay by the year ($60 total). For comparison purposes, monday.com’s cheapest paid plan costs $8 per user per month.

Mind maps and dashboard widgets are limited in the Unlimited plan (ironically).

What’s included:

  • Guest permissions
  • A maximum of 1,000 automations per month
  • 7-day activity and box views
  • Limited views and uses of views including Timeline and Workload

Despite other useful features like integrations and resource management, this ClickUp pricing tier doesn’t allow for team sharing. In fact, you won’t get this until the Business Plus Tier.

2) Business plan

ClickUp’s Business plan costs $19 per member per month, or $9 per member per month if you pay for the whole year up front ($108 total) and is recommended for mid-sized teams.

You can expect features like:

  • The ability to set required custom fields
  • 10,000 automations
  • All views
  • Two-factor authentication

You won’t have access to priority support or critical security features like Single Sign On, other than from Google.

3) Business Plus plan

The Business Plus plan will run your teams $19 per member per month but their site also says you can contact sales for more information. With this upgrade, you’ll get access to features like:

  • Team sharing
  • Subtasks in multiple lists
  • Custom capacity in Workload
  • Increased automations & API
  • Personalized admin training

This plan is also still pretty lacking in terms of security and compliance offerings you might need or even require, like restricting who can add guests or HIPAA compliance. Considering this plan is marketed for multiple teams, some of these gaps might leave you wanting a different tool.

4) Enterprise plan

ClickUp’s Enterprise plan has no set cost. Interested businesses must contact the ClickUp sales team directly to work out a price. Enterprise is focused on the needs of a bigger business—especially its security needs.

The Business plan doesn’t offer much beyond two-factor authentication, but Enterprise adds custom single sign-ons and legal reviews. You also get better customer support with a dedicated customer success manager and special onboarding training.

Here’s what you get on top of the Business features:

  • 100,000 automations
  • Priority customer support
  • HIPAA compliance review
  • Contract review
  • Custom security permissions
