Generally, the interior design process has a linear path from beginning to end, which means it lends itself well to the Waterfall project management method<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are six phases<\/span><\/a> to an interior design project:<\/p>\n

  1. The first phase is programming<\/strong>. The designer meets with the client to determine the project scope and budget, as well as the client\u2019s preferences and other necessary information.<\/li>\n
  2. Phase two is concept development<\/strong>. At this point, the designer begins to consider how their design can achieve both the aesthetic and functional requirements for the space.<\/li>\n
  3. Schematic design<\/strong> comes next. This is an initial visual creation of the design that is given to the client for approval.<\/li>\n
  4. Design development<\/strong> is step four. The designer works with the client, vendors, and contractors to finalize the details of the design so that all resources are available and the project comes in at budget and on time.<\/li>\n
  5. Fifth is construction documentation<\/strong>. This is the step where the designer and\/or contractors gather permits and document the actual construction of the project.<\/li>\n
  6. Finally, there is the construction administration<\/strong>. This phase includes overseeing any contractor work, as well as ultimately staging the room with the finalized items.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
