If the company plans to set up a Scrum team, it obviously helps to have an intimate knowledge of how that works.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How are Agile coaches certified?<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The main certifications for Agile coaches are offered by Scrum Alliance and International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scrum Alliance Certified Enterprise Coach and Certified Team Coach<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Scrum Alliance offers 2 different types of certifications for Agile coaches: 1 for enterprise-focused coaches and 1 for team-focused coaches.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The CEC (Certified Enterprise Coach) certification is most in line with the traditional definition of an Agile coach \u2014 someone a company hires to lead a company-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/monday.com\/blog\/rnd\/agile-transformation\/\">agile transformation<\/a> process.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"CEC Agile Coach Certificate\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monday.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pngaaa.com-3035049.png\" alt=\"CEC Agile coach certification badge\" width=\"557\" height=\"485\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The CTC (Certified Team Coach) instead fulfills a similar role to a Scrum Master \u2014 acting as the go-to for Agile practices within one or more teams.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ICAgile Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC)<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ICAgile also offers a training and certification program for Agile coaches. The ICP-ACC is the main course and certification option on their Agile coaching track.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To get certified, you need to take a 3-day course from an accredited training provider. There are many options in a variety of different countries and languages. You can even take the course remotely.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ICAgile also offers another certification for becoming an \u201cAgile team facilitator.\u201d While not required, they do recommend that you take that course before ICP-ACC.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agile coach requirements<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The CEC requirements are strict and include items like: \u201chaving coached at enterprise\/organizational level or a combination of enterprise and multi-team level coaching for more than 2,000 hours in the past 3 years, not counting time as a ScrumMaster.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Other certifications, like ICP-ACC, just require you to finish the training course and pass the test at the end. In the case of ICP-ACC, that\u2019s around 21 hours of learning spread out over 3 days.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Of course, if you have no experience outside the course, you\u2019ll have a hard time getting hired to manage a large-scale <a href=\"https:\/\/monday.com\/blog\/rnd\/agile-transformation\/\">Agile transformation<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to look for in an Agile coach beyond certification<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<a class=\"twitter-box\" arial-label=\"Tweet\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href,'targetWindow','toolbar=no,location=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes, width=800,height=450'); return false;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?text=\">When you\u2019re looking for an Agile coach for your organization, just finding someone who\u2019s certified isn\u2019t enough. You must also consider relevant industry experience, their alignment with your company culture, and more.<span><\/span><\/a>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Even if it\u2019s a temporary position, you should treat it as you would if hiring someone permanently.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relevant industry experience<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The first thing to consider is whether they\u2019ve helped any similar companies before. Relevant industry experience can speed up the process and avoid having to create a lot of systems from scratch.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Of course, every company has unique workflows and processes, but there\u2019s always some overlap.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experience coaching a transition of similar scale<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>There\u2019s a big difference between an Agile coach who only leads team transitions and a specialized enterprise Agile coach.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>While the underlying philosophy is the same, the approaches and focus areas are not. Make sure you find someone who can handle your scale, whether massive or small and intimate.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coach-organization fit<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>An Agile coach is still a coach, after all.
